Baylor cornerback Kalon Barnes came a hundredth of a second away from tying John Ross III for the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL Combine history. He settled for second place in the history books with his time of 4.23 seconds.
Barnes was unofficially timed by NFL Network at 4.29 seconds before the league's official time came in six hundredths of a second faster.

The blazing fast run for Barnes came three days after his Baylor teammate Tyquan Thompson appeared to break the 40-yard dash record with a time of 4.21 seconds. Unfortunately for Thompson, the official time came in slower, and he had to settle for a time of 4.28 seconds, a still exceptional number that led all receivers in the draft class.
Barnes finished each of his last three seasons at Baylor with one interception and is projected to be a late-round pick by Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.
