Wisconsin Football Transfer Quarterback Makes Final Call on Transfer Destination

Joining the Huskies, Evers reunites with former Wisconsin football wide receivers Skyler Bell, whom he played with, and Dean Engram.

Evers, who began his college career at Oklahoma, ranked as a top-140 overall recruit and the No. 8 QB prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He threw one pass with the Sooners as a true freshman and then joined the Wisconsin football team via the transfer portal last offseason. 

The 6-foot-3 signal-caller fell behind fellow transfers Tanner Mordecai and Breadyn Locke last spring due to a lack of understanding of the playbook. As a result, Evers never appeared in a game for the Badgers in 2023 and spent most of the season on the scout team.

Fast forward to this spring, and Evers again found himself buried on the Wisconsin football depth chart behind Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke, often splitting third-team reps with true freshman Mabrey Mettauer. 

The writing was on the wall for Evers, as he felt he did enough to earn more reps, so he decided a fresh start was in his best interest. 

“Reflecting on my time at Madison, I’ll look back at it as a place of immense growth for me both on and off the field,” Evers wrote. “For that, I’m truly thankful to Coach Fickell and the entire staff.”

In the end, Evers consistently trailed a Wisconsin football QB with matching eligibility who is now challenging the presumptive Badgers starter for the QB1 job. It’s hard to see this split as anything but a positive for everyone involved.
