Angels Free Agent Infielder Reportedly Drawing Interest From New York Teams
USA TODAY Sports

One of the Angels' more intriguing free agents this offseason is infielder Gio Urshela. Despite being limited due to injury last season, he produced well for the team while on the field.

It's unlikely that Urshela will come back to the Halos next season, and there are reportedly two prominent teams currently interested in his services.

The Athletic's Will Sammon is reporting that both New York clubs are looking at Urshela for a potential deal.

"After Mauricio’s injury, the Mets have looked for additional help at third base with an ideal fit being a right-handed hitter. Given the Mets’ preferences this offseason, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them look for someone who offers good defense at an affordable price. Thus, someone like Gio Urshela may fit the profile. Urshela has attracted interest from the Mets and New York Yankees, among others, league sources said."

Per Will Sammon of The Athletic

Urshela is quite familiar with the New York landscape after spending time with the Yankees. He may welcome a return to the East Coast, and the Mets could sure use him.

In 62 games with the Angels this past season, Urshela was quite productive. He hit .299 with two home runs and 24 runs batted in.

It's too bad that injuries took a toll on Urshela this past season, otherwise, we would have seen an even better year from him. He has earned the possibility of a two-year deal, and any team would be well off to bring him aboard.

Urshela is a good hitter, who hits for average. The Mets could use a player like him, and a return to the Yankees isn't out of the question, as well.

Both New York teams make sense for the veteran infielder. He seemed to enjoy his time with the Yankees, and it would be a nice story for him to return.
