Anonymous Angels Player Doesn’t Agree With Decision to Part Ways With Manager Phil Nevin

Once the season was over, the Los Angeles Angels made the official move of letting manager Phil Nevin go. This move was expeted for quite some time, but the team wanted to let him finish out the season with the team.

Moving on from Nevin means that the Halos will now be tasked with trying to find someone else to run this club and take on the mess that comes with it. The Angels haven’t made the playoffs since 2014, and things seem to be getting worse each season.

While some felt that moving on from Nevin was the correct decision, others supported his job. His players seemed to enjoy playing for him, and one even came out and disagreed with the decision to fire him to Sam Blum of The Athletic.

“It wasn’t his fault the team ended up in this position,” one current Angels player told The Athletic. “So I don’t see the reason to let him go.”

The Angels were hoping to be competitive this season, but inconsistent play throughout the season cost them. They only won 73 games and finished in fourth place within the AL West division.

“With losing, there’s changes made,” Minasian said. “That’s part of it. We’ll go through that process and look in every area. We’ll do what’s necessary to make this place as good as it can be.”

The team has been one of the more mediocre teams across the leagues for years now, and to make matters worse, two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is likely leaving the organization this winter. His leaving will only push them down even further unless they make some real changes.

This winter will tell us a lot about how the Angels next few years will go. The team doesn't want to enter a rebuild, but it may be the best option long-term. The Halos have some big questions that need answering this offseason, and unless they fix them, they will be stuck as a middle-of-the-pack team.
