Brandon Drury Receives & Appeals One-Game Suspension
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury received a one-game suspension from Major League Baseball for making contact with an umpire on Monday at Globe Life Field.

Drury was called out on strike in the top of the 10th inning against the Texas Rangers, which led to a disagreement. The 30-year-old went on to argue the call and was promptly thrown out of the game when the bill of his helmet brushed Ramon De Jesus’ mask.

Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for on-field operations, announced the suspension, which Drury has elected to appeal.

An undisclosed fine will accompany the suspension, however, the discipline will be on hold until the appeal process is complete.

Drury is in his first season with the Angels after a breakout year in 2022. He’s posted a .252 batting average with 10 home runs and 30 RBI, and has started in 58 of the team’s 61 total games.

Mike Trout & Shohei Ohtani among Angels All-Star Game vote leaders

The first 2023 MLB All-Star Game voting update has the Angels represented by Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout at their respective positions among American League leaders.

Ohtani, who is on the ballot as a designated hitter, leads all AL players with 924,182 votes. He is topped by only the Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr., who received 1,086,537 votes.

Ohtani has been named an All-Star twice in his career, including each of the last two seasons. He started on the mound for the AL in 2021 and earned the win, but opted not to pitch last year.

Trout is the second-leading vote-getter among AL outfielders with 598,918. He trails only the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge, who collected 844,965 votes.

Trout has made the All-Star Game in every season since becoming a full-time starter in 2012, excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign that didn’t have a Midsummer Classic.
