Today's the day across Major League Baseball where the legacy of one of baseball's greatest and most philanthropic players, Roberto Clemente, is honored.
Clemente won 12 Gold Gloves and was a 15-time All-Star during his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, being named the 1966 NL MVP. He won two World Series with the club, including being named MVP of the 1971 Fall Classic after batting .414 with a 1.210 OPS against the Baltimore Orioles.
Clemente died in a plane crash in 1972 at age 38 on a philanthropic mission to deliver emergency aid to Nicaragua, which had recently been devastated by an earthquake. He was elected posthumously in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, the first player from Latin America to be enshrined.
Since 1973, the Roberto Clemente Award has honored those players with demonstrated excellence both on and off the field, and the Atlanta Braves have selected Matt Olson as this year's nominee. His work with autism advocacy and awareness has drawn national attention, with MLB.com recently featuring the special relationship between Olson and Reece Blankenship, who has nonverbal autism.

The Atlanta Braves may have won the National League East on September 13th in Philadelphia, but they made it clear they are NOT done yet.
But rest assured, these guys aren't done. And they know that. “We’re gonna enjoy it today, tonight and probably tomorrow,” said outfielder Kevin Pillar, a veteran who has been to the playoffs multiple times, with both the Blue Jays and Dodgers. “And then we’re gonna get back to work.”
What's next for the Atlanta Braves?
The NL East Champions are back in action tonight, looking to secure homefield advantage for both the National League and the World Series. Atlanta's series opener in Miami against the Marlins has a listed first pitch of 6:40 PM ET, with Bryce Elder getting the ball against Johnny Cueto. The TV broadcast is on Bally Sports Southeast locally and MLB.tv outside of Braves Country.
