Braves' Ozzie Albies eyeing 'mid-to-late August' return from foot surgery

The Atlanta Braves are expecting second baseman Ozzie Albies to return to action as soon as the middle of August. 

On Thursday, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos updated Albies' rehab and when he might return to Atlanta's lineup. 

"He's at 75 percent weight-bearing," Anthopoulos told The Athletic's Jeff Schultz. " We're probably looking at mid-to-late-August or worst case the beginning of September. That's why we got Cano, a left-handed hitter. Once he comes back, it'll be a huge addition for us." 

Albies has been out of action for a month. The 25-year-old suffered a fractured left foot swinging at a 3-2 pitch on June 13 against the Washington Nationals. Albies was placed on the 60-day IL the following day and had successful surgery to stabilize the fracture on July 15. 

The two-time All-Star batted .244/.289/.405 with eight home runs and 33 RBI in 62 games before the injury. 

Atlanta acquired Canó, an eight-time all-star, on July 10 from the San Diego Padres to help fill the void at second base. Canó is 3-for-7 at the plate in two starts with the Braves.
