Braves RHP Raisel Iglesias to start season on IL
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Braves closer Raisel Iglesias will start the season on the injured list with inflammation in his right shoulder.

Braves skipper Brian Snitker told reporters Thursday that Iglesias won't throw for seven days. Snitker termed it "low-grade" inflammation, adding that an MRI showed that "everything is structurally good" in Iglesias' shoulder.

Iglesias is set to be Atlanta's closer after the departure of Kenley Jansen in free agency. Iglesias, acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in August, was used as a set-up man to Jansen down the stretch of the 2022 season.

Iglesias finished last season 2-6 with a 2.47 ERA and 17 saves between the clubs in 2022. Iglesias had just one save in 28 relief appearances with the Braves.

Iglesias, 33, is 27-43 with a 3.00 ERA and 157 saves across eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Angels and Braves. He started 21 games in his first two seasons in Cincinnati (2015-16).
