Braves sign multiple top draft picks to underslot deals

During the Alex Anthopoulos era, the Braves have made signable players a priority. They typically go after college players, and after refilling the lower levels of the minors in last year’s draft with some high school talent, they’re back to their old ways.

I was pretty surprised to see Waldrep sign for an underslot deal, but I’m not mad about it. That will make signing the rest of the guys in this class a lot easier, and the Braves still got a supremely talented player in the first round. That’s a pretty rare combination. I was nervous about this draft, as it was the first one without superstar scout and current Astros GM Dana Brown, but it seems to be business as usual for the Braves.
