Brewers bring in former All-Stars Pedro Alvarez, Rickie Weeks for player development jobs

The Milwaukee Brewers are bringing in a pair of former major leaguers with over 2,000 games and 20 years of experience on the diamond to work in their player development office.

Alvarez was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates as the second overall pick in the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft and played nine MLB seasons from 2010 to 2018. The corner infielder spent his first six years — and his most accomplished ones — with the Bucs, hitting at least 25 home runs three times.

The 34-year-old's best season came in 2013, when he set career-highs in home runs (36), RBI (100), hits (130) and runs scored (70), while making his lone All-Star team and capturing a Silver Slugger Award as well. Alvarez wrapped up his playing career with the Baltimore Orioles from 2016 to 2018.

Weeks was a staple in the Brewers lineup for a decade, debuting with the team in the early 2000s and playing his last game with the squad in 2014. The 2003 second overall pick of Milwaukee concluded his playing days with 37 games with the Seattle Mariners in 2015, 108 with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016 and 37 with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017, but his prime years came with the NL Central club.

In 2007, Weeks posted a career-high 25 stolen bases in just 118 games, while he produced arguably his best numbers in 2010. That season the now-39-year-old registered career-highs in home runs (29), RBI (83), doubles (32), hits (175) and runs scored (112), while also posting his best figures with a league-leading 754 plate appearances, 651 at-bats and 25 hit by pitches.

Weeks made his lone All-Star team in 2011 and finished that season 20 home runs and 49 RBI.
