Chicago White Sox Could Move Former Top Prospect Around the Diamond in 2024
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox are looking for new and creative ways to get better in 2024.

One of those ways? Potentially utilizing third baseman Yoan Moncada all around the diamond.

Per Vinnie Duber of ALLCHGO.com:

"I think he is capable of playing different positions," (new GM Chris) Getz said of Moncada. "He's played some second base with us. I think he's a better third baseman than second baseman. That doesn't mean there aren't going to be some days where perhaps he goes over to second base or plays first base and perhaps even the outfield. We'll do what's best for our club."

The report did indicate that fans should expect to see Moncada at third, but you could see him other places as well.

Moncada hasn't played anything but third base (or DH) since the 2018 season, but he did log 149 games there in that season. He also played 54 games there in 2017.

Getting Moncada going again would be a huge step for the White Sox and manager Pedro Grifol. Formerly one of the top prospects in baseball, Moncada hit .260 this past season in just 92 games. He battled back problems and only connected on 11 homers with 40 RBI.

He had a great year in 2019, hitting .315 but has slumped every year since then. He hit just .225 in the COVID 2020 year, .263 with 14 homers in 2021, and .212 with 12 homers in 2022.

The White Sox finished with the third-worst record in the American League this past season.
