Chicago White Sox Receiving Trade Interest on Exciting Slugger
USA TODAY Sports

New Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz has been busy the last few days.

First, he traded away prominent reliever Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves. Then, he spoke about that deal.

Now, he's said that the team has also received trade inquiries on slugging outfielder Eloy Jimenez.

Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN:

Chris Getz, re Eloy Jimenez: "Teams are interested. It just has to make sense for both sides."

First off, it makes sense that teams are calling about Jimenez. In a light free agent crop of hitters, he represents a good offensive piece. Still just 26 years old, he's a lifetime .275 hitter with 89 homers and 275 RBI.

Furthermore, he comes with team control, something that team executives love. He is under contract through 2024 but has team options for 2025 and 2026.

It also makes sense that Getz and the White Sox would listen. After finishing with the third-worst record in the American League in 2023, they appear far away from contending. If Getz doesn't think that the White Sox can fully rebuild in the three years that Jimenez has left, it may make more sense to ship him out for younger pieces with even longer team control.

The one thing to factor in for all sides is Jimenez's injury history. Since debuting in 2019, he hasn't always been able to stay healthy. He played just 55 games in the 2021 season, 84 in the 2022 season and 120 this past year. Will the White Sox get the offer they want for a player with that resume?

It remains to be seen.
