Cubs Make Roster Move Before D-Backs Game
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs have moved pitcher Michael Fulmer to the 15-day injured list and activated right-hander Daniel Palencia in advance of Saturday’s game with Arizona.

The Chicago Sun-Times was among the outlets reporting the move.

Fulmer was just activated from the injured list on Sept. 11. He threw two-thirds of an inning in a game on Monday and he didn’t pitch after that.

He was put on the injured list due to a right forearm strain, which is the same injury that led to his stint on the injured list that started on Aug. 25.

That move led the Cubs to call up starting pitcher Jordan Wicks, who has stabilized the Cubs’ rotation as they make a push for the playoffs.

Fulmer’s move is retroactive to Friday. He is 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA this season in 58 games, with one save. He’s thrown 57 innings and has 65 strikeouts against 28 walks.

Palencia was called up from Triple-A Iowa.

The rookie has been up-and-down with the Cubs this season, spending time in the Majors, with the Iowa Cubs and with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies. With Iowa he has a 7.90 ERA in 13 games, with 18 strikeouts and seven walks.

With the Cubs, Palencia is 5-2 with a 4.09 ERA in 21 games, all in relief. He has struck out 22 and walked 13 in 22 innings.

The Cubs are expected to start right-hander Kyle Hendricks (6-7, 3.71) against the Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies (2-5, 6.81).

Hendricks won his last start on Sunday against Arizona, as he gave up two earned runs and seven hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Davies faced the New York Mets on Monday and took a no-decision. In four innings he allowed four hits and three earned runs. He also struck out five and walked three.
