Detroit Tigers Hire Former Angels Pitching Coordinator
USA TODAY Sports

Former Los Angeles Angels pitching coordinator Dylan Axelrod has found a new home in the American League.

After four years of being the pitching coordinator for the Halos, Axelrod will be the Detriot Tigers' pitching performance and integration coordinator.

Axelrod, a former MLB pitcher himself, finished his career with a 5.27 ERA, throwing over 200 innings with five teams. He was selected in the 30th round of the MLB Draft.

The former pitcher has some background with driveline baseball. This institution has helped many pitchers discover or rediscover a formula to add velocity and harness spin rate and other tools to get back on track. And in his time with the Halos, he's certainly made an impact.

Here's Halos starting pitcher Reid Detmers on how Axelrod has helped him with his development.

Detmers said Carlyle suggested a mechanical tweak that the lefty believes directly led to a late-season resurgence in 2022. Chase Silseth, meanwhile, credited Axelrod for development on his slider this season.

“He was the best source for any player or coach to go to of anyone players had access to in the org,” a former pitcher in the Angels organization said of Axelrod.

Axerlod will now be bringing that to the Tigers, becoming the second recently-fired coach to find a new home very quickly.
