Giants SP Anthony DeSclafani placed on 15-day IL with right ankle inflammation

On Friday, the San Francisco Giants placed starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani on the 15-day injured list with right ankle inflammation.

DeSclafani's last start came on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. He lasted just 2.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs off seven hits in a 10-3 loss.

In five starts this season for the Giants, DeSclafani has made it through the fifth inning just once.

DeSclafani has an 0-2 record with a 9.95 ERA in 19 innings.

The 32-year-old is coming off arguably the best season of his eight-year career. In 2021, DeSclafani started 31 games, finishing 13-7 with an ERA of 3.17.

DeSclafani heads to the IL for the second time this season; he missed time in April and June dealing with inflammation in his right ankle.

On Friday, Giants' manager Gabe Kapler said "there's real concern" about the injury and wouldn't rule out surgery for DeSclafani, stating "everything is on the table."

The Giants re-called infielder Jason Vosler from Triple-A Sacramento to take Scalfani's spot on the active roster.

Vosler, 28, batted .203/.272/.385 with seven home runs and 17 RBI in 40 games with Sacramento.

He appeared in 17 games for the Giants between April and early June, slashing .294/.362/.569 with four home runs and eight RBI.
