Miami Marlins Lose Another Outfielder to Injured List, To Miss Significant Time
USA TODAY Sports

Already down outfielder Jazz Chisholm, the Miami Marlins have placed his replacement on the injured list as well.

Speedy outfielder Jonathan Davis is set to miss three-to-six months after hurting his meniscus on Wednesday night.

The following update comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said Thursday that Davis (knee) will be sidelined 3-to-6 months, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

ANALYSIS
Davis underwent surgery Thursday after damaging his right meniscus while trying to make a diving catch Tuesday against the Cardinals. He had been in line for regular starts in center field with Jazz Chisholm (oblique) landing back on the injured list Monday, but Davis can now probably be ruled out until at least mid-September. The 31-year-old was slashing .244/.307/.378 with two home runs and one stolen base through 34 major-league games this season.

Davis had been a valuable contributor in Miami this season, already getting more plate appearances this year than any other year of his career. He made his debut in 2018 with the Toronto Blue Jays but has also played with the Yankees and Brewers in addition to Miami.

His year this year also showed good development as his stats are better than his career averages. Lifetime, he's a .198 hitter with six homers and 30 RBI.

The Marlins enter play on Thursday at 51-37 and winners of three straight. They currently own the top spot in the National League wild card race. They trail the Atlanta Braves in the National League East by 8.0 games.

The Marlins will play the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. ET.
