Nick Nastrini Dominates in Final Start, Earns International League Pitcher of the Week Honors
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago White Sox prospect Nick Nastrini ended his 2023 season on a high note, tossing five perfect innings in his final start with Triple-A Charlotte and being named the International League's Pitcher of the Week.

Nastrini was dominant in his Sept. 24 start against the Memphis Redbirds, allowing zero baserunners while striking out three batters over five innings. The 23-year-old displayed pinpoint command, inducing weak contact when batters did manage to put the ball in play.

The perfect outing lowered Nastrini's ERA to 4.12 over four starts with the Knights after the White Sox acquired him from the Los Angeles Dodgers in July. Over 19.2 innings with Charlotte, Nastrini racked up 23 strikeouts and held opponents to a .207 batting average.

Nastrini's impressive performance comes on the heels of a strong August, where he went 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA in four starts for Double-A Birmingham prior to his promotion to Charlotte.

The International League took notice, naming Nastrini the league's Pitcher of the Week for the period of Sept. 18-24. The weekly award caps off a whirlwind couple of months for Nastrini, who has quickly emerged as one of the White Sox' most intriguing pitching prospects.

With his final start of 2023 now in the books, Nastrini will look to build on his success as he competes for a White Sox rotation spot in 2024 Spring Training.
