Official jersey numbers have been announced for a trio of Braves
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Out with the old and in with the new. Three new additions to the Atlanta Braves have received their jersey numbers for the 2024 season. Two of these guys will be changing their jersey number and one of them will continue with his regular number.

Aaron Bummer will be rocking a new number with the Braves. He will be going from No. 39, which he wore with the White Sox, to No. 49 in Atlanta. That number was freed up when Kolby Allard elected Free Agency instead of returning to Atlanta. Bummer finished the 2023 season with a 5-5 record with a 6.79 ERA. His second half of the season was a lot better than the first half of his season. He is a guy who brings a lot of promise to the Braves bullpen.

Reynaldo Lopez will be wearing the same number he wore when he was on the Chicago White Sox. He will be wearing No. 40, which was opened up when the Braves traded away Michael Soroka to Chicago for Aaron Bummer. Lopez played for three different teams in 2023 as he made appearances for the White Sox, the Angels, and the Guardians. He had a combined 3-7 record with a 3.27 ERA in 66 innings pitched.

It was obvious that Jarred Kelenic would have to change numbers in Atlanta because he wore No. 10 for the Seattle Mariners and that number is off-limits for the Braves thanks to Chipper Jones. Kelenic, who is entering his age-24 season, has chosen to wear No. 24. That number was freed up when Braden Shewmake was traded to the White Sox for Aaron Bummer.
