Padres LHP Threw this Pitch for 1st Time in 2 Years & Results Were Elite

The San Diego Padres seem to be hitting their stride through mid-June, as they have won five of their last six games. They're hitting the ball, star players are playing up to par, and the pitching is doing their thing.

A ton of things are going right for them right now, including their young southpaw Ryan Weather's who made his eighth start of the season last weekend against the Colorado Rockies, 

Weather's only went three innings allowing three hits and one earned run that happened to be a home run. It was one of his better outings of the season, and a big reason for that was a pitch he hadn't thrown in two seasons. The southpaw spoke to San Diego Tribune's Jeff Sanders and said the two-seamer put him over the top in his latest appearance. 

He hadn’t thrown one since 2021 and certainly didn’t go into Saturday’s game looking at the pitch as a way to get through a start roughly a mile above sea level.

“In the third inning, I started throwing two-seamers — and I never throw two-seamers — because I couldn’t keep the ball down,” Weathers said after the Padres’ 3-2 win on Saturday over the Rockies. “I started throwing two-seamers and got some weird takes and some bad swings. Some change-ups were cutting. Some were fading. It was, make it serviceable and get through the outing.”

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? He looked comfotable with it and it clearly worked, but even Weather's doesn't know if he'll use it again or maybe he just wants to keep it a secret. 

“We’ll see,” Weathers said with a laugh. “It might be just hit-or-miss today, but we’ll see going forward.”

Weather's will make his next start on Thursday; we'll find out soon enough if he will use his secret weapon.
