Reds place left-hander Ross Detwiler on 15-day IL with low back pain

The Cincinnati Reds placed left-hander Ross Detwiler on the 15-day injured list with low back pain on Saturday.

Detwiler has an 0-2 record with a 4.20 ERA in 15.0 innings this season for the Reds.

The 36-year-old began the season strong, mostly in mop-up duty.

Over Detwiler's first seven appearances, he held opponents scoreless, allowing just three hits, while striking out six in 5.1 innings.

Through his last 11 appearances, opponents are batting .341 against Detwiler. He's allowed seven earned runs, posting a robust 6.52 ERA over 9.2 innings.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Washington Nationals, Detwiler is on his 10th major league team in 14 seasons.

The Reds recalled reliever Buck Farmer to take Detwiler's spot on the active roster.

Farmer, 31, gets the call-up for his second stint with the big league club. He made ten appearances earlier this season, allowing nine earned runs off 15 hits, with a 6.75 ERA in 12 innings.
