Anderson, Grandal had altercation before All-Star break

Tim Anderson was part of a big fight with Jose Ramirez over the weekend and now we are learning that he was also part of a fight with a teammate a month ago.

Shane Riordan, a producer for the Danny Parkins and Matt Spiegel show on 670 The Score in Chicago, reported on air Monday about the incident.

According to Riordan, Yasmani Grandal slapped Anderson in the clubhouse the day before the All-Star break after being called out by the shortstop.

Riordan says that Grandal, who catches for the White Sox, was complaining about not being in the lineup for the team’s July 9 game against the St. Louis Cardinals on the Sunday before the break.

Grandal reportedly was grumbling about not being in the lineup and said that he wanted to head out to his break a day early if he wasn’t going to be playing.

Riordan says that Anderson was in a tub getting loose before the game and shouted something along the lines of “if Grandal doesn’t want to be here, I’ll pay for his flight and send him home.”

Riordan says that Grandal went over to the tub where Anderson was and slapped the White Sox shortstop. The two apparently got into a fight and had to be separated.

Anderson went 0-for-5 that game, which the White Sox lost 4-3 in 10 innings. Grandal made a pinch-hit appearance and walked.

Grandal was asked about the report prior to Monday’s White Sox-New York Yankees game. He said the report of the physical altercation was “not real.”

The report about the altercation between Anderson and Grandal comes two days after Anderson got into a fight with the Guardians third baseman. The report also comes a day after former White Sox relief pitcher Keynan Middleton, who was traded to the New York Yankees last week, vented that the White Sox’s clubhouse was a mess.
