RHP Chris Devenski Heading to Injured List
USA TODAY Sports

It's been an extremely rough ride for the Los Angeles Angels of late.

The hopes that they once had to potentially make a run to the playoffs? Those are hanging on thin ice, especially with Mike Trout on the injured list. A run of 11 losses in their last 13 games has seen them fall to six games back in the race for a wild card spot, and this downturn has made the future of Shohei Ohtani all the more uncertain.

And now the Angels have taken another hit in this rocky stretch, as relief pitcher Chris Devenski is set to head to the 15-day injured list with a hamstring injury, per MLB.com.

"Devenski felt something in his hamstring while pitching on July 15 and was expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list. He wasn't available in relief in Sunday's 9-8 loss to the Astros. The Angels have yet to announce the severity of Devenski's injury, or the corresponding roster move."

It's been a poor season for the 32-year-old as he hasn't been able to rediscover the good form he enjoyed earlier in his career.

He has a 5.08 ERA for Los Angeles in 29 appearances this season and got hit hard in his last appearance on Saturday, giving up five runs in 2/3rds of an inning.

After boasting one of the better bullpens in the American League to begin the season, it hasn't been the same for the Halos lately, as they now rank 23rd out of 30 MLB teams in bullpen ERA with a collective 4.34 mark.

The relief group is a significant reason why the Angels sit in the perilous position they now find themselves in, and they'll have one fewer arm to call on as the unit tries to turn things around at a pivotal point of their season.
