Roman Quinn Made Phillies History With An Absolute Strike

Sometimes, for a ball to move super fast, it doesn’t have to be a pitch thrown by one of the hardest throwing pitchers in the league.

Who’s to say it can’t come on an outfield assist?

That’s what happened yesterday during a game between the Philadelphia Phillies and their division rival Atlanta Braves.

Outfielder Roman Quinn has a unique skillset.

He’s one of the fastest players in all of baseball and also has one of the strongest arms in the game.

In the bottom of the first inning, he put that arm on display, barely gunning down Braves catcher William Contreras at the plate with a throw that registered at 99.9 mph, which is the fastest throw by a Phillie since the beginning of the Statcast era.

What A Throw!

That is one strong arm.

And to throw it all the way from right field that fast is also quite impressive.

That throw helped pave the way for the Phillies to bust out offensively and beat the Braves by a final of 7-3, moving into sole possession of second place in the NL East with a 20-22 record.

They’re eight games back of the New York Mets and 2.5 back in the Wild Card race.

If the Phillies are going to turn it around, perhaps a throw like that can help light a fire under the team.

Maybe that can help them build a little momentum and give them an extra push as they try to regain their footing in the NL East race.

At the very least, they’ve won consecutive games and have a chance to at least secure a split in their four-game series with Atlanta tonight.
