Ryan Weathers Brutally Honest After Recent Struggles at the Mound
USA TODAY Sports

The possibility of Ryan Weathers being demoted by the San Diego Padres and being sent back down to the minor league is very real after yet another match in which he struggled, this time against the Cleveland Guardians that saw the Friars fall 8-6 in the final game of their home series.

Weathers carries a certain skillset and demeanor that will definitely find him consistent success in the MLB at some point. However, these types of shaky starts do show that he needs more development and comfort before he is a regular starter in San Diego's rotation. On Thursday, he lasted just over one inning as he allowed six runs off the bat on seven hits and paved way for Cleveland's win.

This definitely brought back memories to his start just over 10 days ago against the Chicago Cubs where he allowed seven hits and five runs. With the Padres' offense finally starting to click and Manny Machado, Ha-Seong Kim, and Xander Bogaerts all holding down the defense, holes in their pitching staff cannot show right now.

Weathers is hearing it all and he knows that he has a lot to improve on so he can help the clubhouse instead of hurting them.

“Bottom line is I’ve just kind of sucked two out of the last three outings,” Weathers said. “I’ve got stuff I’ve got to work on. I could look at it and lay down and fold,” Weathers said. “But that’s not in my DNA. I’ve got stuff I’ve got to work on. I’m glad I’m not a finished product.”

The first step to improvement is definitely addressing what needs to be done but Weathers is still young and approaching this in a mature manner. He will continue to receive chances in the future for a reason and we look forward to seeing him take a leap from here on out.
