Texas Rangers Scout Profile: Brett Bochy
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

If you’re a Texas Rangers fan, you’re familiar with manager Bruce Bochy. But have you heard about Bruce’s son Brett? If not, that’s okay, and that’s likely why you clicked on my Texas Rangers Scout Profile in the first place. Here’s what you need to know about Brett.

Like Father, Like Son

Brett Bochy is one of Bruce Bochy’s two sons with his wife, Kim. Greg Bochy is the elder son of the Bochy family. Greg, 44, was born in Houston, Texas, on August 26, 1979. Greg played four years of MiLB with the San Diego Padres as a right-handed infielder after being drafted in the 37th round by the Padres at the 1997 MLB Draft out of Mount Carmel High School in San Diego, California.

Brett Bochy, 36, was born in San Diego, California, on August 27, 1987. Brett was drafted in the 20th round by the San Francisco Giants at the 2010 MLB Draft out of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Brett played two seasons for the Giants as a right-handed pitcher from 2014-15 and joined the French national baseball team for the 2021 World Baseball Classic qualifier in Tucson, Arizona.

Brett’s MLB career has been over for years. But his passion for professional baseball seemingly remained despite retiring from the sport, attending graduate school, and working as a real estate agent in San Diego.

Fast forward to February 21, 2023, when the Rangers hired Brett as a scout. Brett’s baseball knowledge can improve the Rangers’ scouting staff. Additionally, Brett’s uncle, Joe Bochy, worked as a scout for the Padres and Giants. As you can see, baseball runs in the Bochy family.

Do You Remember?

In 2014, Bruce Bochy became the seventh manager in MLB history to manage his son. Ten years ago, Brett Bochy was called up from the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies when the rosters expanded. Brett got to play for Bruce during the final month of the 2014 MLB season.
