Maeda suffered the injury during Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians. He was pulled in the sixth inning after allowing three runs.
The 33-year-old was bothered by the injury in previous starts, so Twins manager Rocco Baldelli decided to shut him down.
