Watch: Cubs OF Christopher Morel's hot streak continues

Nearly two weeks since his call-up from Triple-A Iowa, outfielder Christopher Morel has done only one thing for the Chicago Cubs, mash the baseball.

Morel continued his hot streak at the plate Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies, notching his seventh home run in only 10 games this season.

The 23-year-old finished 2-for-3 on the day, albeit in a 12-3 shellacking in Philly.

Morel has made the most of his opportunity with the Cubs. Since his call-up on May 8, Morel has hit safely in all 10 games, going 16-for-42 at the plate with seven long balls and 13 RBI.

Along with his offensive contributions, Morel's versatility has also aided the Cubs. Morel started in the outfield on Saturday, but since joining the major league club, Morel has made starts at second base and designated hitter.

Morel's success shouldn't come as a surprise, as he was also tearing the cover off the ball in the minors this season. In 29 Triple-A games this season, Morel slashed .330/.425/.730 with 11 homers and 31 RBI.

Signed by Chicago as an international free agent in 2015, Morel made his MLB debut last May, homering in his first at-bat against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Morel went on to play 113 games for the Cubs in 2022, batting .235 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI.

Morel has given the Cubs some much-needed pop in the batter's box and already looks like a huge potential building block for the North Siders' future. After another solid outing on Saturday, seeing how long Morel can stay hot will be interesting.
