Watch: Unsuspecting Phillies announcer got nailed by foul ball in Spring Training

Even during Spring Training, you still have to pay attention to the baseball at all times.

While calling the Philadelphia Phillies’ Grapefruit League game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy was hit by a foul ball while sitting in the broadcast booth. McCarthy was completely oblivious until the moment the ball, hit off the bat of Adam Haseley, nailed him in the chest area. Take a look.

McCarthy may have broadcast partner Ruben Amaro Jr. to thank as it looks like Amaro might have deflected the ball slightly, causing it to hit McCarthy with less force. McCarthy seemed just fine too and shook it off like a champ.

Screeching projectiles coming your way are definitely an occupational hazard when it comes to covering baseball games. Sometimes it is the broadcast equipment that is on the receiving end too.
