White Sox reportedly have serious trade interest in Rockies SS Trevor Story

The Chicago White Sox are dominating the AL Central this season. But that doesn't mean they're not looking to add a significant piece before this month's trade deadline.

Although the Colorado Rockies are telling teams they have no plans to trade Trevor Story before the All-Star break, the White Sox continue to have serious interest in the talented shortstop, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

The White Sox already have Tim Anderson at shortstop but reportedly believe they'd have no trouble making Story their everyday second baseman for the remainder of the season.

Chicago lost second baseman Nick Madrigal to a season-ending hamstring injury earlier this year, and the position has since been covered by Danny Mendick and Leury Garcia.

Story would be a rental for the White Sox as he will be a free agent after the 2021 campaign. According to Nightengale, the Rockies would want one of Chicago's top five prospects in exchange for Story, which is a steep price for a player who might sign elsewhere in free agency.

Story is slashing .256/.327/.455 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI this season, which is a down year by his standards. Still, the 28-year-old would prove to be a solid addition for any team acquiring him.

While Chicago is interested in Story, it is also keeping its options open for other available players. The White Sox have been linked to Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eduardo Escobar and Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier in recent weeks.
