Four ideal trade targets for Lakers who could propel team to contender status

Despite having the greatest player of all time still playing at an elite level, the Los Angeles Lakers are the epitome of mediocrity right now. After 35 games, they sit at 17-18, which is the 18th-best record in the league. They are 19th in points, 15th in rebounds and 24th in three-point field-goal percentage.

While LeBron and company have proved that they only need to reach the playoffs to make some noise, just getting to the postseason might end up being a struggle. This is why it could be time for the team to make a big move. But what trade would help propel the Lakers to another level or at least generate excitement in La La Land? Here are four players who would immediately create some buzz.

Draymond Green

While Green wouldn’t be a huge offensive factor with the Lakers, scoring is not what they would get him for. Right away he’d help out defensively and on the boards. But, due to his erratic and violent tendencies, is he worth any assets they’d have to give up? He and LeBron are good friends, so perhaps — after he returns from his suspension — he’d be more willing to walk the line in L.A.

Kyrie Irving

Speaking of erratic, would LeBron welcome a reunion with his old Cleveland pal? He might if Irving shows up every day and is committed to helping the team win (and stays off social media). L.A. targeted him last season when it became apparent that the Brooklyn Nets had had enough, so if the right trade package could be worked out, perhaps they’d make the move to get him.

Zion Williamson

It’s been nearly 20 years since Shaq left the Lakers, so perhaps it’s time to have another massive dude in purple and gold patrolling the paint. Williamson is another player who comes with question marks due to his injury history and weight issues, but when healthy and motivated, he’s a top forward.

Kevin Durant

With rumors of Durant being frustrated with the way the season is going for the Suns, now could be the time for L.A. to propose a trade. While they would pretty much have to sell the farm to get him — including giving up good young players and a valuable draft pick — a lineup featuring Durant, LeBron and Anthony Davis would immediately make the Lakers a title contender.
