Grant Hill: Klay Thompson will 'fit right in' upon his return

Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson has been out of action for two years after tearing his left ACL in 2019 and tearing his right Achilles in 2020.

It has been 30 months since he has played in an NBA game.

With Thompson’s return on the horizon, many have taken to preparing mentally for his big comeback.

This week, NBA legend Grant Hill appeared on “Warriors Pregame Live” on NBC Sports Bay to talk about a myriad of topics. One in particular that came up was Thompson’s return.

Hill, obviously, dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career. He ended up sitting out almost 300 games during his stint with the Orlando Magic, before ultimately returning for a notable late-career run with the Phoenix Suns.

When pressed on what advice he had for Thompson, Hill kept it real.

“We’ve come so far in terms of recovery and the methods with surgery, so I think he’ll be fine,” Hill said. "The most important thing is you can’t get it all back right away, in some cases. So as long as he can put together consecutive days, consecutive weeks, consecutive months of health — the basketball part is going to be there — I think he’ll be fine.

“I think he’s in a great situation,” Hill added. “Team is doing well. He’ll come right in and fit right in and it will be fun to watch. Except when you play against him.”

The Warriors have been linked to a massive blockbuster trade in recent days. If they’re able to pull it off, and should Thompson return to form relatively quickly the way many are anticipating he will, Golden State could be very scary come the postseason.
