'I want to be the greatest player,' Jamal Murray claims he is closely behind Nikola Jokic to become best in the world
Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Jamal Murray is an elite point guard who is highly underrated for his performance predominantly. The reigning champ has been showing off his talents, despite there being not much hype around him. Murray’s peak is mostly seen in the postseason, where it matters the most. Apart from that, Murray is quite an underrated player.

Recently, the Nuggets were interviewed, including head coach, Michael Malone. From teammates to coaches, Murray has earned everyone’s respect and is not only one of the best guards in the league but also among the elites. When interviewed, Murray was very confident about what he thinks the media perceives of him.

Murray told Fox when asked if he thinks he is one of the top players currently:

Of course, and I strive to be the greatest. I want to be the best player ever. Obviously, if you don’t shoot high, then you’re never going to get there. I think Jokic is the greatest player right now. And I try to be a close second.

Murray is definitely the best player behind Nikola Jokic on the Nuggets. The two-time MVP greatly complements Murray’s game on the floor. Not only that, but Murray is more dangerous alongside Jokic during the postseason compared to the regular season games.

Jamal Murray is on a hot streak

In the last six games, Murray has averaged 24.7 points, 8.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game, also shooting 49% from the field. While his numbers speak volumes, his performance is often overshadowed by the Joker. Both make for a fantastic duo, being consistent from beyond the arc, as well as showing off their on-court chemistry.

Jokic on the other hand, is having yet another dominating season. However, the Joker and the Nuggets have struggled without Murray in the postseason and somewhat in the regular season. Denver is 9-7 without Murray on the floor. Though when he is in action, the Nuggets have a record of 37-13 with Jamal on the floor.

One of the things that is often forgotten is Murray’s ACL injury recovery. Not a lot of players have managed to get back to their original form post-ACL recovery. Murray is one of the very few players to have done so. Right after his comeback, he led his team to its first title in history. He is truly a special player who isn’t appreciated enough.
