Key Phoenix Suns Player Is Still A Free Agent
USA TODAY Sports

Cameron Payne is coming off another solid year where he averaged 10.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point range in 48 regular season games.

This summer, the Suns traded Payne to the San Antonio Spurs, but he was  waived earlier this month.

Currently, Payne is a free agent that is available to be signed by any team in the league.

Payne had spent four seasons playing for the Suns and was a key player on the team, who helped them make the NBA playoffs for three straight years.

In 2021, the Suns made the NBA Finals but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

Payne was initially the 14th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Murray State.

In addition to the Suns, he has also played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers over eight seasons in the league.

His career averages are 8.0 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest while shooting 42.0% from the field and and 36.3% from the three-point range in 327 regular season games (he has also appeared in 53 NBA playoff games).

Due to Payne's excellent job at playing a role for the Suns, he could be a good pickup for many teams around the league, and it's surprising that he still remains a free agent.

Training camp begins next month, so he will be a name to watch over the next few weeks.
