Mavericks HC Jason Kidd enters NBA's health and safety protocols

Jason Kidd's first season at the helm of the Dallas Mavericks has been up and down, as the club enters Friday night with a 20-18 record. Dallas is currently riding a season-best four-game winning streak though and has jumped into the No. 5 slot in the Western Conference playoff picture.

They'll look to make it five in a row when they face the Houston Rockets on Friday, but the the team will have to do so without the Hall of Fame point guard on the bench.

Following a playing career of nearly two decades, Kidd was hired as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in June 2013. After a 44-38 season with the Nets and a second-round playoff elimination, Kidd was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for a pair of future second-round draft picks.

Kidd spent three-plus seasons as the Bucks head coach, helping them earn a pair of postseason appearances before being fired in January 2018. The 48-year-old served as an assistant for Frank Vogel's Los Angeles Lakers each of the last two seasons, before being hired by Dallas in June 2021.

Kidd has a career regular-season coaching record of 203-208, while posting a 9-15 mark across three postseason appearances.
