Nets star Kevin Durant has sprained MCL in left knee

The Brooklyn Nets will be without Kevin Durant for a while as he recovers from a knee sprain, the team announced Sunday morning.

In a statement, the Nets said Durant underwent an MRI on his left knee, which revealed a sprained MCL. The team provided no timetable for his return, but said that he'll be back after a "period of rehabilitation."

The injury occurred during the second quarter of the Nets' 120-105 win against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night. Brooklyn's Bruce Brown went down during a Pelicans fast break and collided with Durant, who tried to walk off the injury before eventually leaving to the locker room.

Durant, 33, is the NBA's leading scorer so far in the 2021-22 season with an average of 29.3 points per game. The Nets are second in the Eastern Conference, just a half game behind the Chicago Bulls for first place.

While the Nets will be without Durant for a yet to be determined period of time, the team has Kyrie Irving back in the lineup for road games and has played well while leaning on the duo of Irving and James Harden.
