Raptors’ Scottie Barnes Fractures Left Hand, Out Indefinitely

Barnes hurt himself trying to block Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga’s layup attempt in the second quarter. The Raptors lost to the Warriors by a final score of 120-105. They are now 22-38 on the season. 

Barnes is averaging 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists this season while shooting 47.5% from the field, 34.1% from beyond the arc and 78.1% from the free-throw line. He has 25 double-doubles and four triple-doubles.

The Raptors have 22 games remaining on their schedule. If Barnes has to have surgery, he may be done for the season. 

Barnes has career averages of 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Florida State. Barnes, 22, won the 2021-22 Rookie of the Year Award. 

The Raptors can sign Barnes to a rookie-scale extension this summer. All signs point toward Toronto signing Barnes to a lucrative extension. Barnes is the new franchise in the post-Pascal Siakam–OG Anunoby era.
