Report: Kings Showing Interest in Wizards' Delon Wright
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings are amidst a hot streak, winning six of their last seven, but rumors continue circulating as the Thursday trade deadline approaches. Sacramento's core group has stepped up on their seven-game road trip, but the bench remains in trouble.

The Kings should not be in desperation mode to unload a player with a tradeable contract like Harrison Barnes or Kevin Huerter, but making small, impactful moves to improve the second unit is likely.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports that the Kings are among a list of teams interested in Washington Wizards G Delon Wright.

Delon Wright has drawn trade interest from the [Boston] Celtics, Kings, and [Minnesota] Timberwolves, league sources told HoopsHype. The [Denver] Nuggets were also mentioned recently by Marc Stein. Wright is expected to command second-round draft pick compensation in trade talks, league sources told HoopsHype.

Wright, 31, has been a productive backup point guard for years, but he is amid his worst statistical season since he was a rookie. Playing just over 15 minutes per night, Wright averages 4.4 points and 2.8 assists but has proven he can be much more productive when given more opportunity.

Wright appeared in 27 games for the Kings in early 2021, averaging 10.0 points, 3.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals, with a potential return to Sacramento on the horizon.

Kings HC Mike Brown has been back and forth between backup point guard Davion Mitchell, as Sacramento could use a player more reliable when star De'Aaron Fox is on the bench.

The Wizards reportedly want "second-round draft pick compensation" in return, which the Kings would be more than willing to give up if they feel Wright is a significant upgrade over Mitchell.

Realistically, Wright would not be the answer to Sacramento's problems, but the 6'5" point guard could be worth a gamble for a reasonable price.
