Watch: Mavericks forget to play defense vs. Warriors after timeout

Sometimes a coach draws up a great play out of a timeout. Sometimes, he doesn't have to.

After head coach Jason Kidd called time out late in the third quarter, his players seemingly forgot which way they were going during the break. The Warriors had possession under their own basket, but all five Mavericks lined up on their own offensive end.

The sheer improbability seemed to stun the Warriors at first, almost as if they needed to confirm that they hadn't lined up in the wrong place themselves. Kevon Looney started to jog down to the other end, before reversing course and running to the hoop for the easiest basket of his life.

Kidd argued with the officials afterward, but it's not clear what his beef is about. It's not the crew chief's job to point Christian Wood at the correct basket!

With the teams nearly tied in the standings, and the season series tiebreaker at stake, the Mavericks have to hope that those two points aren't the difference in a huge game for the playoff race. Or their whole team will be heading the wrong direction — to the play-in tournament.
