3X Pro Bowl, Super Bowl Hero Signed By Washington Commanders To Help Out 2024 Quarterback

The Washington Commanders made a big splash Wednesday by adding a three-time Pro Bowl tight end to the roster a few days before the start of free agency. The Commanders needed to add a pass catcher after releasing veteran tight end Logan Thomas last week.

The Washington Commanders went on a cutting spree last week

Thomas was part of a cutting spree of veteran offensive players, including center Nick Gates and left tackle Charles Leno. The moves allowed the Commanders to ascend to the point where they had the most cap space for free agency by the end of the NFL Combine.

Now it’s time to spend, spend, spend.

The Commanders signed tight end Zach Ertz

Per Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Commanders signed former Philadelphia Eagles star tight end Zach Ertz on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million for the 2024 season. Ertz is familiar with new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was Ertz’s head coach in Arizona.

Ertz is a three-time Pro Bowl tight end and is well known in Philadelphia for his heroics in the Eagles’ win in Super Bowl LII when he caught the game-winning touchdown pass to defeat the New England Patriots.

Ertz will help whoever is under center in 2024

Ertz will be a friendly target for whoever the Commanders have under center next season. The Commanders are undecided about whether to keep Sam Howell as their starter or turn to a rookie quarterback they select with the No. 2 pick in April’s draft.

As previously discussed, the Commanders could trade down from the No. 2 pick to boost their rebuild while supporting Howell’s progress in Washington.
