49ers RT Mike McGlinchey feels 'stronger' coming off tendon injury

San Francisco 49ers starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey was lost for the remainder of the 2021 NFL season in the Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, and it was reported at that time he had suffered a torn quadriceps.

As David Bonilla mentioned for 49ers WebZone, McGlinchey recently offered an update on his health while speaking with Brad Graham of "TheSFNiners" and explained what actually happened last fall.

"It wasn't my quad muscle," McGlinchey said. "It was the tendon that connects the quad to the knee cap. So thankfully, [it] was still like five percent attached, so the muscle didn't recoil up my leg because that would have made rehab quite a bit harder."

Veteran San Francisco players report for training camp next Tuesday, and McGlinchey added he's on track to take part in those sessions.

"It's been a long road, and a lot of patience and a lot of tough, dark times, and a lot of stress, but here I am just about eight, nine months later, and I'm ready to go for training camp," he said. "So, I'm excited. I feel like I'm back. I feel stronger than I ever have. I think I've been dealing with that issue for a number of years now, and looking at the silver lining, I've got a newly reconstructed knee, and there isn't that tendinitis in there as much."

As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, McGlinchey is set to earn $10.88 million on the final year of his rookie contract and, thus, will have plenty of reasons to want to return to form as soon as possible this coming fall. He's logged 52 starts with the 49ers since his rookie campaign in 2018.
