49ers RT Mike McGlinchey out for season with torn quadriceps

The San Francisco 49ers dropped to 3-5 on the season via Sunday's 31-17 defeat to an Arizona Cardinals opponent that was without quarterback Kyler Murray and All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins because of injury setbacks and also endured a different type of loss on the day.

Per Nick Wagoner of ESPN, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday that right tackle Mike McGlinchey suffered a torn quadriceps in the first half of Sunday's game and will miss the remainder of the campaign. McGlinchey will require surgery to repair the issue.

"I thought Mike was doing a hell of a job coming off his last year," Shanahan commented about McGlinchey, who entered the league via the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. "We saw some really good things from Mike his first two years. I think he knows; we all know he had a setback in his third season last year. He struggled at times. He was putting in the work in the offseason and I thought he's had a much better year, getting back to how he was playing in his second year."

Rookie Jaylon Moore previously worked at left tackle but is expected to see time in McGlinchey's role. Veteran Tom Compton had a rough outing against Arizona and allowed a sack and four quarterback pressures but is another option for Shanahan, who added he's planning to keep Daniel Brunskill at right guard.

The 49ers host the 7-2 Los Angeles Rams next Monday night.
