Bills release one-time Super Bowl champion after playoff win

The Buffalo Bills will not be leaning on “Playoff Lenny” as they try to capture their first Super Bowl title in franchise history.

Leonard Fournette was released from the Bills’ practice squad on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Fournette was not elevated to the active roster for Buffalo’s wild-card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, so the decision is not all that surprising.

The Bills signed Fournette in October after Damien Harris was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury. He had just 12 carries for 40 yards during the regular season.

Fournette, 28, has had multiple seasons with 1,000-plus yards rushing, but his biggest contributions have come in the postseason. He had 300 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns during the 2020 playoffs and played a huge role in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl. Fournette will not have that same opportunity in Buffalo.
