Breaking Down the Saturday Moves
USA TODAY Sports

The return of rookie running back Chris Brooks to the Miami Dolphins lineup will have to wait at least another week.

In one of the two moves they made Saturday, the Dolphins downgraded Brooks to OUT for the Week 13 game against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field on Sunday.

The Dolphins also elevated tight end Tanner Conner from the practice squad.

Brooks just finished his first week of practice after being to designate to return from injured reserve, where he landed after sustaining a knee injury in the 42-21 victory against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6.

The Dolphins will have two more weeks before they have to make a decision on Brooks' status — activate him to the 53-man roster or keep him on IR for the rest of the season.

Regardless, the Dolphins already have used the most to designate him to return, leaving them with one such move for the remainder of the 2023 season.

CONNER' SECOND APPEARANCE

It's the third time that Conner has been elevated from the practice squad, meaning he'll only be able to play another regular season game if he's signed to the 53-man roster.

Conner, who previously played in Week 6 against Carolina and Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, figures to be used primarily on special teams.

The Dolphins have three tight ends on the roster with Durham Smythe, Tyler Kroft and rookie free agent Julian Hill.

None of them received a game status designation on the final injury report of the week, indicating they're all good to go for the Washington game, though Smythe was limited in practice all week with an ankle injury he's been nursing.
