Browns place rookie WR David Bell on active/PUP list with foot injury

Earlier this month coming off organized team activities and mandatory minicamp sessions, Cleveland Browns wide receivers coach/pass game coordinator Chad O'Shea explained how members of the coaching staff believe they acquired quite a bargain in rookie wide receiver David Bell, who was drafted at pick No. 99 overall in the third round this spring.

It is now known the Purdue Boilermakers product will open his first NFL training camp as a spectator.

The Browns confirmed on Friday that Bell has been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list for the start of camp because of a foot injury. Per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, it is hoped the first-year pro will be cleared to return to the practice field "in a couple of weeks."

Bell spent much of OTAs and mandatory minicamp working out of the slot, but Shea previously noted that coaches are "going to keep moving him around to see where his value is best for the Cleveland Browns." The 21-year-old recorded 232 career college receptions with just 11 drops for Purdue.

Cleveland rookies and quarterbacks reported to training camp on Friday morning, and the team's first practice is scheduled for this coming Wednesday. The Browns added signal-caller and former first-round draft pick Josh Rosen to the roster as a camp arm on Thursday as they wait for news on starter Deshaun Watson, who is potentially facing a lengthy suspension regarding allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.
