Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald joining ESPN's 'Monday Night Countdown'

Future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald never had a formal retirement tour or ceremony but hasn't played since the 2020 NFL season. He also hasn't given any indication that he wants to return to an active roster and declared in February that he "had a great run" even though he never got to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy during his legendary career.

It appears Fitzgerald is ready for the next step in his football journey.

Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported that Fitzgerald will serve as an analyst for ESPN’s "Monday Night Countdown" program that precedes the weekly "Monday Night Football" games. The 39-year-old will make his debut ahead of Monday's prime-time matchup between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.

The Arizona Cardinals originally selected Fitzgerald third overall back in the 2004 NFL Draft, and he earned 11 Pro Bowl nods while playing only for that organization through 2020. As Mike Florio pointed out for Pro Football Talk, there were whispers last year that Fitzgerald could potentially sign with a contender to chase a Super Bowl ring, but the wideout repeated during his weekly appearances on the "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast with Jim Gray that he was content watching the action on Sundays rather than playing.

Fitzgerald is scheduled to do approximately five to seven "Monday Night Countdown" broadcasts for ESPN and will essentially be a replacement for fellow former receiver Randy Moss, who reduced his workload to appear on the network's Sunday pregame coverage.
