Conflicting Reports on Packers and Jets Aaron Rodgers Trade Deal

It’s not entirely clear what the delay is. Rodgers said he was interested in talking to the Jets and the Jets flew out to see and talk to Rodgers about a move, but a deal hasn’t been finalized.

While some are reporting this is all but done, Tom Pelissero writes: “Despite a report to the contrary, the Packers and Jets have not agreed to the framework of an Aaron Rodgers trade, per sources.” He adds, “Both sides continue to await word from Rodgers on his plans. If he decides he wants to go to New York, then the teams will work to hammer out a deal.”

In an article by Rob Demovsky of ESPN, “While Packers president Mark Murphy did not rule out the possibility that Rodgers could return as the team’s starting quarterback, it apparently isn’t the organization’s first choice…” Murphy said, “He’s obviously a great player and four-time MVP, but I think it’s trying to find what he wants and what we want, and hopefully we can find a win-win situation.” Finally, he noted, “Very few players play for only one team. Obviously, Brett had a good career. Aaron had a good career here.”

With the Jets having made the arrangements they need to, it’s simply a matter of Rodgers agreeing to the deal.

Connor Hughes of SNY writes, “Everything that needs to be done is essentially done in regards to a trade. Sides have worked out what needs to be worked out. So if Rodgers wants to be a Jet, he will be a Jet,” Hughes wrote. “Broken record, but … just waiting on him to decide.” The hope is that he makes his intentions known and that he gives the Jets time to build a team around him if he does, in fact, come aboard.
