Cowboys' Jerry Jones backs Dak Prescott despite abysmal performance against 49ers

Although Dak Prescott threw three interceptions in a 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones backed the quarterback.

"I completely believe we have the quarterback that can take us where we want to go," Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM in Dallas. "Dak Prescott is a quarterback that can get us to the Super Bowl, and that's the way it's going to be."

Despite Jones' confidence in Prescott, it's fair to wonder if he can carry the Cowboys after his performance against the 49ers. In the blowout, he completed 14-of-24 passes for 153 yards and finished with a below-average 46.2 QBR.

"The Cowboys under Dak have defeated good teams. They have defeated bad teams. What they have yet to do is beat the best of teams," wrote Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "The NFL has an Executive Platinum Club, and the Cowboys aren't in it. Under Dak, the Cowboys are gold but not platinum."

Yet Prescott shouldn't shoulder all the blame because it's apparent several other issues are stifling the offense. Running back Tony Pollard has only rushed for 100 yards or more once this season, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb only has one game with 10 or more receptions.

The problems might tie to the play calling of head coach Mike McCarthy. Nonetheless, Jones adamantly denied the team must make a change. When asked if offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer should assume playcalling, he said, "No, in any way, no."

Regardless, the Cowboys should consider making changes if the issues persist because they're not a championship-caliber team at the moment, even if Prescott is an elite player who can lead them on a deep postseason run.
