With the 99th pick in the NFL draft, the Browns selected David Bell out of Purdue. During his time at Purdue, Bell had 232 receptions, 2,946 yards, and 21 touchdowns.

The question of Bell’s speed might’ve kept him on the board until pick 99, but the Browns see potential in him.

What Can David Bell Provide?

While in Purdue, Bell had an outstanding 4.7 percent drop rate. Reportedly in training camp, David Bell didn’t drop a pass for a straight month.

And this impressive catch was during his great performance in training camp:

Bell is definitely going to be adding consistency to the Browns’ wide receiver core.

What Other Skills Does Bell Have?

Browns’ wide receiver coach, Chad O’Shea believes that Bell was one of the best receivers in the draft in regards to his ball skills.

Via the Browns’ website, O’Shea said:

“Speed is one thing, but there’s so many things that go into being a great receiver. It’s body control. It’s an ability to understand where you are on the field and have sideline awareness. All those things are critical in the development of a young wide receiver, and he certainly has a lot of those things that we’re able to work with.”

O’Shea also said in a “Browns Breakdowns” video that Bell is very productive with the ball in his hands.

“He had the ability to be productive with the ball in his hands. The job of the receiver is to get open and catch the ball, and we would obviously like to be productive when we have the ball in our hands. He has the ability to make defenders miss in space and the ability to find the end zone. He’s an instinctive runner with the ball in his hands, and one of which produced.”

Having skills like the ones O’Shea is mentioning would benefit any offense. So, it would only make sense that he gets plenty of playing time this coming season.
