Dexter Lawrence ‘Proud’ of Miami Dolphins’ Christian Wilkins
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Pro Bowl mania is in full swing, and fans are eager to see their favorite players lay back a bit. While Christian Wilkins of the Miami Dolphins is already on vacation mode, one of his former teammates believes that it’s only a matter of time before he gets a Pro Bowl nod.

His former teammate argues that he’s done enough with the Dolphins to not only participate in the Pro Bowl, but also get a contract that doesn’t fall behind his.

Dexter Lawrence believes Miami Dolphins’ Christian Wilkins is due a big payday

Christian Wilkins’ contract with the Miami Dolphins ends this season and could start negotiations with NFL teams if the team that drafted him 13th in the 2019 Draft failed to offer him a satisfactory contract or didn’t franchise-tag him.

Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports that Lawrence, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle for the New York Giants, Wilkins deserves every dollar that he’s going to get this offseason:

“You know, sometimes you gotta’ control what you can control, man,” Lawrence said. “It’s gonna’ come for him. He did his thing this year and I’m proud of him. That’s my dawg.”

Lawrence is a dominant run stopper. But Wilkins is also dominant against the run. And he may be a more explosive pass rusher.

“He beats me in that category,” Lawrence said. “But overall, I think I’ve got him.”

His performance on the trenches for the Dolphins greatly supports Lawrence’s claims. Wilkins started all 17 games this season, notching a solid 9.0 sacks and 38 solo tackles against some of the NFL’s best offensive linemen. He also forced one fumble and made two fumble recoveries.

Lawrence also thinks that if his best friend keeps up his performance, a Pro Bowl appearance isn’t far away. However, he couldn’t help but rub it in to his former Clemson teammate:

“I’m whooping his (butt) right now,” the affable Lawrence said prior to a Pro Bowl Games practice on Friday at Camping World Stadium. “I have two and he has zero.”

“This is gonna’ get him going,” Lawrence said as a parting message. “Tell him stop letting Dexter beat your (butt) in Pro Bowl wins. That will get him going.”
