Easton Stick Reflects On Opportunity to Lead Bolts

Sometimes it takes years for quarterbacks to ever reach starting caliber. If a QB does not come out of college and be begged as a starter, they can often join teams and remain on the practice squad.

That is sort of the trajectory that Easton Stick has been on with the Los Angeles Chargers. Stick was drafted by the Bolts in 2019 but would remain as a third-stringer. When he was set to have the backup job replacing Tyrod Taylor, he was replaced again by Chase Daniel. 

After a few years, Stick finally got his chance to start, as Justin Herbert would end his season with finger surgery. Despite losing a close game, Stick has remained optimistic about his opportunity.

“This is our job,” Stick said. “It’s a blessing to do this every day and you understand it’s not going to last forever. Just trying to stay in the moment and be a part of this locker room and enjoy the guys as much as possible and go out there and play as well as we can play. The opportunity means the world to me, to get a chance to go out there and play with these guys.”

Despite only appearing in 3 games as a starter, Stick has logged 651 yards and 3 TDs. He has played well all things considered. He has also shown his rushing prowess, especially last night against Buffalo. 

Stick nearly led the Chargers to a victory, and that could lend itself to possibly giving the backup a chance to start somewhere else next season. That's not to say the Bolts will let Easton walk, but he has proven his resistance and skillset in the past 3 games. 

We will see what he can do with the final two games of the season, but he has been playing his heart out for the team thus far.
